When the speed of the engine exceddsthe normal the weight tends to move out-ward, drawing out the wedge from behindthe cam, thus causing the high point onthe cam, which gives the pxomp its stroke,to move inwards to the flywheel result-ing in a shortening of the pump resulting decrease in the quantity ofoil injected brings the speed of the en-gine to normal. The stroke of thepimip may also be regulated fro large vari-ations in load by means of a vertical rodon the side of the engine which is con-nected to the bell crank the other end ofwhich presses against the plunger of thepiomp. Fy means of lock nuts on this rodthe stroke of the pump may be adjusted tosuit the load. The method of procedure in starting theengine is as follows:- Fill the torch with a mixture of halfkerosene and half gasoline to within about. -3- one inch of the filler openning. Heatthe head of the torch bybmeans of gas-oline poured into the cup below the torchhead. TThen the gasoline in the cup is near-ly all burned out close the small reliefvalve in the filler plug and punip air intothe tank. Ignite the gas as it comes outof the vaporiser. Allow the flame to playon the ignition head for about 20 the flywheel so that the handle is ontop, open the cylinder cock and depressthe pump rod quickly several times. Ifdense white smoke issues from the cockthe engine is ready to start. Turn wheelso that handle is at the bottom, closecylinder cock, press dovrr\ on pump rodseveral times, turn flywheel up againstcompression in a counter clockwise directionand let go. The oil piimp may be then ad-justed for the load by screwing the nuts onthe pump rod up for less oil and down formore oil. Turn on the cooling water slow-ly and shut off torch. To stop the enginepress the pump red down as far
