Sun shade urban alley portrait, to Woolworth Building, red bricks Temple Court Potter Buildings above Beekman Street, New York


The Temple Court Building, at 5 Beekman Street, on the left side of the shot, was built in ornate red brick in 1881-83. The 11-storey red brick Potter Building, on the right side of the shot, at 2-8 Beekman Street, was built 1883-86. Antonella's Barber's Shop and Salon, in the ground-floor, dates to 1985. The Morse building, on the near right side of the shot, was built 1878-80, with alterations in 1901-06. These brick buildings were constructed as tall 'fireproof' office buildings, prior to the full scale development of steel-framed skyscrapers onward of the 1890s. The 241 m (792ft), Neo-Gothic, cooper roof Woolworth Building, in the background of the shot, dates to 1911-13, being the tallest building in the world for 17 years.
