CHINESE SACRED LILY. Narcissus Orientalis. The Sacred Flower of Cliina.—The Joss flower, or flower of the Gods, and consid- ered by the Chinese to be an emblem of good luck. This is a variety of the Polyanthus or many flowered Narcissus, grown in China, where they attain great size and strength, insuring luxuriant, growth and remarkable profusion of bloom in a very short period The bulbs bloom in six or eight weeks alter planting throwing up several flower stalks thickly studded with bloom; white with yellow center, very fragrant. They are flowered in shallow, ornamental bowls containing water and pebbles to prevent them from upsetting when in bloom. TUBEROSES. Double Italian.—One of the most delightfully fragrant and beautiful of the summer flowering bulbs throwing up tall spikes of double white flowers three feet high, which remain in bloom a long time. For early flowers they can be started in February or March in the green house or hotbed ; and for a succession they can be planted at intervals as late as August. For flowering in the open border, plant about the first of May.
