DNA polymerase. Computer model showing the structure of a DNA polymerase molecule (green). DNA polymerase is an enzyme that aids DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) replication by catalysing the linking together (polymerisation) of the single units of DNA (deoxyribonucleotides). This occurs alongside a single DNA strand, which has been 'unzipped' from its partner strand, and is 'read' as a template. The newly-polymerised molecule (yellow and purple) is complementary to the template strand and identical to the template's partner strand.
