Tarmac Burley Hill Quarry closed around 2003, after application to extend the quarry was turned down by Denbighshire CC in 2001 for environmental reasons. The appeal went to the Welsh National Assembly who dismissed it in 2003. . Working since 19th Century. When working its out put was 800,000 per year, employed 46 people, and a further 40 indirectly. 300 lorry trips per day. In 2008 it briefly opened to remove old stockpiles.
