At one time there were upwards of onehundred operators in this small field, though this number is nowdiminished to about a dozen, by abandonment and by consolidation ofproperties. The wells to the north of the railroad were soon exhausted, and thosefarthest north had been pumped out and abandoned some time beforethe last of the ocean wells was drilled.
