Of that which is sawn into deals, boards, and planks, the West Indies take nearly a half, as well as a large proportion of the masts, oars, staves, headings, and all the shingles. The amount sent to foreign countries is inconsiderable. The fishery, which fonns the next article, decidedly rivals the timber-trade, especially when we include the capture of seals, which in mercantile language is con- sidered a branch of it.
