New First World War 1 Memorial in Lostock Hall, Preston, Lancashire 11th November, 2015. Preston Scottish Pipe Band members at the Commemoration of First World War (1914-1918) The 40ft monument , a sculpture depicting a First World War soldier is new war memorial commemorating more than 600 fallen soldiers from South Ribble. The rusty metal engraved war structure was opened at a dedication ceremony on Armistice Day with members of the fallen soldiers families invited.
The purpose of the memorial and peace garden is to enable everyone to be able to remember those from our local community who made the ultimate sacrifice. It is humbling to think that members of the public will be able to visit this memorial in 25, 50, 100 years from now to ensure that those sacrifices are never forgotten.” The memorial and a surrounding peace garden will form part of the greater St Catherine’s Park, due to open to the public in summer 2016. It is a joint project between South Ribble Council and St Catherine’s Hospice.
