There have been many theories toaccount for the peculiarity, but none of them areeither so plausible, or so well supported by facts, asto be generally adopted. The upper part of the Womb being tilted to the 116 SIGNS OF PREGNANCY. right side, the neck of course points to the left, andbackwards. It is now very short, even in primipara,but in tiiose who have borne children it is scarcely tobe distinguished at all. The finger may now be in-troduced, even in primipara, half way up the neck ;and in others it will reach even into the uterine First child. Woman who has bornechildren. The neck of the Womb is a first pregnancy, and is a female who has homo children before, at the end of the seventh month. The part below the lower line here, shows thatpart of the neck which is contained in the will easily be seen how much shorter this part is,and how much more open the passage is, in the fe-male who has borne children, than in a first preg-nancy. Ballotment and Auscultation both, now afford un-mistakeable evidences as to the condition of thepatient. End of the eighth month.—By referring to the pre- SIGNS OF PREGNANCY. 117 ceding Plates, it will be seen that the part of theneck of the Womb above the Vagina, which is placedbetween the two dotted cross lines, remains almostunchanged, while the part within the Vagina, or thatbelow the lowest line, becomes less and less, till atthis time, in those who have borne children,
