Diebold, commander of Task Force 48, awards the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal to Machinery Repairman 2nd Class Kristen Reed in the well deck of the Whidbey Island-Class Dock Landing Ship USS Gunston Hall (LSD 44) after she demonstrated impressive technical expertise when tasked on short notice to design and fabricate a critical piece of equipment, restoring a critical mission area for Task Force 48. The ship is on deployment supporting Southern Seas, which is an annual collaborative deployment in the Southern Command area of responsibility where a task group will deploy to conduct a variety of exercises and multinational exchanges to enhance interoperability, increase regional stability, and build and maintain regional relationships with countries throughout the region through joint, multinational and interagency exchanges and cooperation.
