Serene pastel scene of Welcombe Mouth, normally wild and windy is a surfers paradise
A secluded and quiet bay located at the end of a rough unmade road. A small car park gives access to one of the loveliest beaches near Hartland. Some of the lanes to get here are quite narrow but it is worth the effort. Sandy from mid tide onwards, it also offers some excellent rock pools and a waterfall. Welcombe beach is also a surfers paradise, with many camping out in the small car park, determined to catch the big wave. Welcombe beach is part of North Devon's Biosphere Reserve and was the first in the UK to be extended to meet UNESCO's new criteria for biosphere reserves as set out in the Seville Strategy.
