Built between 1972 and 1977, Netherfield was one of the first rental housing grid squares in Milton Keynes to be completed.

The roofs of the houses were all originally built to be on the same level, despite the small hills they are built on. Architects managed to do this by building three and four-storey houses on the bottom of the slopes and one and two-storey houses higher up the hills.
