The second place on the Union ticket wasaccepted by a War Democrat, Andrew Johnson, ofTennessee. Lincoln was renominated, though notwithout oppositii^^j^^^^ ^^*^^3(%li so keenly awarethat he was no^^^^^j^g^^^y^s choice of theUnion Party that he permitted the fact to appearin a public utterance soon afterward. I do notallow myself, he said, in addressing a delegation.
