Arles Archaeology museum. Visitor viewing an Ancient Roman effigy of Victory. This 80 centimetre high gold leaf dusted bronze was found in the Rhone river at Arles, France, and shows Victory wearing a flowing gown. It has marks showing that it was most likely hung in public. The Victory is an allegorical and symbolic character that denotes success achieved in personal combat, military operations or any competition. Originally, she might have been holding a bow and perhaps also had wings. Photographed at the Departmental Museum of Ancient Arles, France.
