The Art of London; Statues and wall reliefs by Ilpo Musto: Guards Memorial by Gilbert Ledward (1888 - 1960) Unveiled in 1926 the monument is a memorial for the five Foot Guards regiments who served in the First World War, also known as the Great War. The emblems of the regiments are shown in the wreaths in front of the monument as well as in the monument itself. The regiments are (from left) Grenadier Guards, Scottish Guards, Welsh Guards, Irish Guards and Coldstream memorial had an inscription added later to include those of the Household Division soldiers who fell in the Second Word War.
