Chronic inflammation of the gallbladder (chronic cholecystitis) caused by gallstones. The patient underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy. The gallbladder has been opened and reveals several variably-sized mixed cholesterol stones which are composed of cholesterol crystals admixed with bilirubin salts and other minerals. The gallbladder wall is thickened due to chronic inflammation and fibrosis.
