These are fed by eight 6-in, drypipe systems with Grinnell air and alarm valves. The greatestnumber of sprinklers on any one system is 201. This automaticsprinkler erjuipmcnt was snp|)licd and erected by the General FireICxlinguishcr Co., of Providence, R. I., which is now equippingwith similar systems other buildings of the Cleveland ElectricRailway Co. There were five tests made on the cars shown in the accom-panying illustrations. The results and details of the tests were. niRNED recorded by eight men. The first car burned had ceiling sprinklerprotection only and was located about 55 ft. from the south end ofthe building with four others exposing it; one adjoining on thesame track, one east 6 ft. from the car side and two west 12 and19 in. from the car side. There were two rows of aisle sprinklersbetween the second named exposure and one row of aisle sprinklersbetween the last named exposure. With the car openings exceptill front and rear closed, a fire of light combustibles and kerosenewas started in the car. This fire gained great headway, openingthe ceiling sprinklers, but before any quenching effect was deter-mined the aisle lines were turned on and the effect of the latterwas almost instantaneous in controlling the fire. The ceilingsiirinklers were not given a severe test in this fire although 14heads opened just prior to the turning into service of the aislesprinklers. The fire did not communicate to the other
