Sundial and solar panels. The photovoltaic cells (dark blue) are on the offices of the Aerni Fenster factory, Arisdorf, Switzerland. This building was among the first in Europe to have a hybrid BIPV (Building Integrated Photovoltaics) solar thermal system, dating from the 1990s. This captured the heat in sunlight as well as generating electricity. On the sundial WOZ (German: wahre ortszeit), local apparent time (apparent solar time), is shown by the shadow cast by the gnomen. The hours are marked in Roman numerals from 6 (VI) to 18 (XVIII). The latitude and longitude are degrees North (German: Nord) and degrees East (German: Ost).
