According to documents, the people of Clean, formerly appeared under the name of Coabab. It is assumed that prior to the twelfth century Coabab was part of a series of ancient tribal territories of Celtiberian. As early as 1201, King Alfonso VIII, and under the jurisdiction granted to Laredo, the population of Coabab, among others, became part of the homage of Laredo Según documentación, el pueblo de Limpias, aparecía antiguamente con el nombre de Coabab. Se supone que con anterioridad al siglo XII, Coabab formaba parte de una serie de territorios de una antigua tribu celtíbera. Ya en el año 1201, el Rey Don Alfonso VIII y en virtud del fuero concedido a Laredo, la población de Coabab, entre otras, pasó a formar parte del vasallaje de Laredo.
