The "settlement" tanks that collect all the small matter to allow the clear water to run off with the solids settling to the inner ring of thhe tanks.
The huge settlement tanks allow all solid matter to accumulate in the tank and settle to the bottom with all the clear water being allowed to "run off" to be "screened" with UV light thus eliminating any nasty remaining bugs, the solid matter must be constantly "stirred" or the decaying mass becomes aerated with Methane gas and expands in volume becoming difficult to contain, the whole process of sanitising the input is undertaken on an immense scale with very high standards required before anything can be discharges into the river Ogmore, all solids once the "settlement tank" is full are screened and dried then land filled as a harmless filling.
