Medieval Penny and its Fractions
Medieval penny, cut halfpenny and farthing. Prior to the 13th century, the silver penny was virtually the only coin struck in England. Moneyers were permitted to cut pennies into halves and quarters to make small change, making halfpennies and farthings.
