Spitfire JG891, a MkVc, waiting for take-off as part of a mock 'Scramble' at Shoreham Airshow. JG891 was built at Castle Bromwich in 1942 and went into service with the Royal Australian Airforce in 1943. Restored from 1974, the aircraft has been painted in the colours to represent 249 Squadron RAF which was based in Malta in 1942/1943 and as flown by Flt Sqt Jack Hughes RCAF. A Volkes filter and four wing canons have been fitted to represent a machine operating in North Africa.
