Barnard Castle

Barnard Castle in Teesdale, County Durham stands on a hill above the north bank of the river Tees. It is now surrounded by the market town of the same name. The castle was founded by Bernard de Balliol who built the stone castle on the site of earlier earthwork fortifications.
