Diseased teeth, when neglected, produce irritation in thesurrounding tissues to such an extent that, contrary topopular belief, the removal of the tooth does not alwaysgive immediate relief. The alveolus, the gums, and eventhe maxilla may partake of the inflammation and requirejudicious after treatment. Fomentations, poultices witha little tincture of opium sprinkled upon them, or ananodyne cataplasm of poppy leaves, can be used toalleviate pain. Applications o
