The traffic of the Middle Sungari is extensive, the channelbeing often completely blocked by the fleets of junks lying atanchor near the large towns. It is navigable by craft drawingforty inches for at least nine hundred miles between the city ofGirin and the ford of Amur. The Nonni, its main branch, is alsonavigable. The Mutan-he, or Khurkha, which joins the Sungariat Sansing, is available for inland traffic. The steamer carryingthe explorers Usoltzev and Kropotkin was the first to ascend theSungari.
