To the southwest rise the Angora Peaks, and these like-wise catch, and hold the winters snow, often, like Mt. Tal-lac, retaining beds of neve from year to year. To the geological student, especially one interested inglacial phenomena, the lateral and terminal moraines ofFallen Leaf Lake are of marked and unusual moraine on the east is upwards of looo feet high, andis a majestic ridge, clothed from the lake shore to its summitwith a rich growth of pines, firs and hemlocks. Its greatheight and bulk will suggest to the thoughtful reader thequestions as to how it was formed, and whence came all thematerial of its manufacture. It extends nearly the wholelength of the lake, diminishing somewhat in size at thenorthern end. There is a corresponding moraine on thewestern side not less compelling in its interest thoughscarcely as large in size as its eastern
