SUES FOR FALSE ARREST. At Port Jarvis, N. Y., J. J. Bell, of Deposit, has brought an action for $25,000 damages against Charles H. Putnam for alleged false imprisonment and libel. The suit is a sequel to Mr. Bell's arrest last spring on complaint of Mr. Putnam, charged with opening mail intended for Mr, Putnam. The com- plainant in the action alleges that May 25 Mr. Putnam made a verified com- plaint against Mr. Bell before a U. S. commissioner charging Bell with tak- ing from a letter carrier a letter mailed by Mrs. E. V. Wallace, of Hubbards- ville, N. Y., addressed to the J. J. Bell Seed Co., with a design to obstruct the correspondence and pry into the busi- ness secrets of the Bell Seed Co. Mr. Bell was arrested and gave bail, but October 10 the proceedings were dis- missed and
