Wild peonies in bloom on the bank of Lake Markakol. East Kazakhstan


Lake Markakol is the largest lake of the Altai Mountains. Its length is 38 km ( ml), width is from 15 km ( ml) to 27 km ( ml), depths are 10-27 meters ( ft). The lake has more then 100 tributaries, and the only one river flows out from Markakol. It is river Kaldzhir. In 1976 the Markakol National Reserve was founded on the banks of the lake.
