The brick buit wate cistern in the historic town of Rye in East Sussex, England. The cistern dates form about 1735.


The water cistern in Pump Street in the East Sussex town of Rye. Water from springs wa pumped up tp the cistern along two inch pipes made from elm. Donkeys were used to provide the pumping power. A guage is visible on the side of the cistern to show how much water wa in the cistern. St. Mary's church can be seen in the background. The cistern tower posibly dates from c1735
