Was appointed first United States Mar-shal of Wyoming Territory by PresidentGrant in 1869. Removed to Nebraska in1871, and engaged in fanning, banking,and railroad building. A mem1:)er of theNebraska State Senate and House ofRepresentatives twenty-four years, andwas twice President of the vSenate. Mem-ber of State Board of Education for tenyears. In 1893 was elected Senior Vice-Commander, and in 1894 Commander ofthe Grand Army of the Republic, Depart-ment of Nebraska. Retired from activebusiness in 1895. Appointed Consul at , Italy, byPresident McKinley, July, 1897, and in1900 transferred to vSheffield, Eng. Minute Men of 61 221.
