William Crolius pottery was located in ReadeStreet near Broadway. His son John acquired property on Reade Street,about one hundred feet west of Centre, where the pottery and the familyresidence were maintained for many years, until Clarkson Crolius, Sr., removedthe works to Nos. 65 and 07 Bayard Street, the old home still remaining inReade Street. For one hundred years a ship could not sail to any part of theworld without finding there some stone mug or jar bearing the stamp: Clarkson Crolius, Manhattan Wells, New York. Mr. Clarkson Crolius, Jr.,discontinued the inanufaet ure of stoneware in Bayard Street in 1845, and thepottery was afterwards demolished.
