European bee-eaters on a branch. The European bee-eater (Merops apiaster) is found in southern Europe and parts of northern Africa and western Asia. It migrates in the winter to tropical Africa, northwestern and southern India and Sri Lanka. It feeds predominantly on insects, in particular bees, wasps and hornets. Photographed in Hungary.
