The Dorothy Boot Homes, of whichthree illustrations are given, have been erected atthe expense of Sir Jesse Boot at the old village ofWilford, in Nottinghamshire, and are primarilyintended for the use of veterans who served inthe Crimean War. The block consists of elevenhouses and a common room to be used as a clubroom, available for all the veterans in the the decease of the veterans, it is the intentionof the donor to place in the homes the employeesof his firm. Each house has a living-room,scullery, pantry, and six of the houses have twobedrooms and five of them three bedrooms. Theland is low-lying, and in exceptional floods wouldbe subject to flooding; the houses have thereforebeen raised four feet above the ground, with aflagged terrace in front and grass slope to thenatural ground.
