The accompanying engraving illustrates a late im- proved five-headed planer and matcher of the New Series type, built by the Hoyt & Brother Company Branch of the American Wood Working Machinery Company, at Aurora, 111. The main feature of this machine is that it has two lower cylinders. The first one is placed in front of the top head, making the roughing cut, while the second lower cylinder is placed in the rear of the machine, for producing an extra fine finish when running flooring face downward.
