The Brown Leghorns are of medium size, very active, great layers, and non-sitters; they have medium to large single combs, which, in the hen, droops to one side. The ear-lobes are white or creamy white ; the wattles bright red, long and pendant. The neck long and graceful; yel- lowish brown, striped with black, the colors being brighter in the cock; the backs are dark red in the cock, dark brown in the hen, penciled with lighter colors in both ; the breasts are black in cocks, and salmon brown in hens ; the wings are large ; shading from dark red to black in cocks, and being dull black, penciled with , in the hens ; legs bright yellow. They are the most beautiful of all Leghorns, and acknowledged to be the best layers in existence; they are of medium size, and non-sitters. Every feature connected with them is attractive and pleas- ing to the eye. They are great foragers, and if given their liberty need but little feeding. They mature very early; cockerels crow at six weeks, and pullets commence laying at three to four months, continuing to lay the entire season. For a table fowl they are unexcelled, the meat being juicy, sweet and delicious.
