Work has now completed on the initial stages of the £200m three-year programme on the Ocean Estate which improved existing homes and built new homes for the community. 1,200 existing homes were extensively refurbished and brought up to date with new kitchens and bathrooms, windows being replaced and roofs repaired. In addition more than 800 new homes were built. Almost half of these have been designed to be housing that’s within the financial reach of as many people as possible. The new properties replaced older rundown housing entire estate also got a landscaping makeover, providing comfortable and useful surroundings for all residents. A range of new retail and community facilities including a new multicentre which has a GP surgery and housing office, were also being provided, all of which have been planned in consultation with the people living on the estate.
