SMITH, Isaac, counselor in the presi-dency of the Cache Stake of Zion since1890, is the son of Samuel Smith andSarah Jane Ingraham, and was bornDec 31, 1858, in Brigham City, Box El-der county, Utah. His father was anative of London, and his mother ofWorcester, England. August 14, 1869,Isaac was baptized in Brigham <rity,and he was ordained a Priest by Feb. 13, 1876. At the age of four-. teen he had pretty well mastered thecabinetmakers trade, when he wentout with a surveying party as peg soon rose, however, to rod he went with Jos. A. West as rol-man, when the U. & N. R. R. mado itssurvey through Bear river canyon toSoda Springs. When about sixteenyears of age he had charge of the levelparty under Jos. A. West, in makingthe preliminary survey of the railr^-adto Black Rock and E. T. City, west ofSalt Lake City. On his return to Brig-ham City, Isaac Smith was givencharge of the B. C. Co-op lumberyard, which position he held until thefall of 1876, when he went to Salt LakeCity to attend the University.
