16/11/21 After five years in design and build the 52 Express land speed record motorcycle completes its first ever powered run. Ridden by Guy Martin today’s successful sub 90mph test at Elvington Airfield, Yorkshire, enabled the team to carry-out a number of systems and safety checks, establish braking distances and also saw the bike lift up from its stabilisers to run on its own two wheels. Streamlined bodywork will soon be fitted over the 30ft labyrinth of aero-grade metal tubing. The motorcycle is powered by a fifty-year-old Rolls-Royce helicopter engine slung behind a 1950s-style cockpit . It is the creation of 77-year-old former motorcycle Grand Prix and TT sidecar racer, Alex Mcfadzean. Ridden by Guy Martin, it is hoped the all British bike will hit 400mph, breaking the current 376mph motorcycle land-speed record in Bolivia in 2023.
