An Ottoman kindjal with a wootz blade, circa 1820, Double-edged blade of splendid wootz Damascus with fullers on both sides. Floral gold inlays (rubbed in places) at the base. The massive grip of walrus ivory, fullered in the centre. Velvet-covered wooden scabbard, the silver mounts punched with floral designs, each bearing the tughra stamp of Sultan Mahmud II (1808-39) on the obverse. Length cm.
