The amount of street railwaytravel in and about Los Angeles is very large, even for a city of120,000 inhabitants. The Los Angeles & Pacific Railway Co. operates a line to SantaMonica with branches via 16th St., and the southwestern cornerof the city, also the northwestern route, via Hollywood and Cole-grove. The latter line operates 80 cars a day and 120 on employs 200 men and has a pay roll of about $10,000 per LOS ANGELES INTERTJKBAN SYSTEM. The Los Angeles & Redondo Railway Co. is about to convert itssystem to electric traction. The line is 38 miles long and the costof the electrical equipment will be $500,000. A contract has been secured by Mr. Robert Sherer for the grad-ing of the Huntington-Hellman Long Beach electric railway. Thiswork will extend over a line of 17 miles in length. The specifica-tions provide that it shall be completed 60 days from February entire road will be built upon a private right of way. and thecontract for the bridge work has been let to Mr. J. D. The tracks will belaid as soon as the grading is completed and material is constantlyarriving for the equipment of the road.
