Chemistry experiment. Student performing a silver mirror test in a test tube. In the test, Tollen's reagent reacts with an aldehyde to produce a thin layer of silver metal on the inside wall of the reaction vessel. This is used as a diagnostic test. It can distinguish between organic aldehydes that contain a group and similar ketones, which contain a group.
