Smallpox health officials. Group of four US doctors and smallpox health officials in the offices of the Communicable Disease Center (later the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, CDC) in Georgia, USA. Left to right, they are: Donald A. Henderson (born 1928), J. Donald Millar (born 1934), John J. Witte, and Leo Morris. This photograph was taken in 1966. At the time, Henderson headed the global effort to eradicate smallpox, and Millar was director of the CDC's Smallpox Eradication Program. Witte specialised in immunization, while Morris specialized in statistical analysis and the new jet-injector vaccine-delivery systems.
