Royal Air Force Fighter Command, 1939-1945. Squadron Leader P B 'Laddie' Lucas, when Commanding Officer of No. 616 Squadron RAF at Ibsley, Hampshire. A former international golfer and journalist, Lucas opened his victory score with No. 249 Squadron RAF in Malta, a unit which he later commanded. He commanded 616 Squadron from April to July 1943, following which he led the Coltishall Wing. After a further rest from operations he commanded No. 613 Squadron RAF, flying night-intruder sorties until the end of the war.
