A FLORIDA INDUSTRIAL SCHOOL TWELVE years ago St. Augus-tines Mission School began itswork among the Negro chil-dren of Gainesville, Ela., withfifteen pupils. Now it has more than100 pupils enrolled with a large averageattendance. The school aims to giveyoung people higher ideals of living, toemphasize the qualities of good citizen-ship, and to fit them for greater useful-ness in life by fostering and developingmoral and Christian character. It en-deavors to teach them how to do thingswith their hands as well as to fill theirheads with the contents of year an industrial department hasbeen added. A class of twenty-six girlshas been organized to receive instruc-tion in plain sewing, dressmaking andfancy work, as well as the elementaryprinciples of the art of economic cook-ing.
