Mindanao Island, Philippines, Ikonos satellite image. Mindanao is one of the Philippines' richest islands. It contains 80% of the country's iron reserves. Agriculturally, it is a major producer of pineapple, coffee, cocao and hemp. In recent years the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) has fought a small scale war against government forces, who have received help and training from the US military.
