He has beensupervisor of music in the Salt LakeCity Schools for six years, directedCivic Opera for six years, and wasappointed leader of the TabernacleChoir, Aug. 26, 1935. He is a worthymusician to follow in the footsteps ofthe great directors who have precededhim. He married Mary Haigh in 1913and they have seven children. COWLEY, Matthias F., a memberof the General Board of Y. M. M. from 1898 to 1906. (See Bio. 1, p. 168.) DAINES, Lyman L. (Dr.). a mem-ber of the General Board of Y. M. I. A. since 1929, was born March 15,1883, in Hyde Park, Cache Co., Utah,the son of Robert Daines and Jemima Seamons. He was baptized whenabout eight years old and served invarious offices in the Priesthood. Hereceived his education in the publicschools, later acquiring the followingdegrees: B. S. (from the BrighamYoung College), M. A, (from the Uni-versity of Utah), Ph. D. (from theUniversity of Calif.), and M. D. (fromthe Rush Medical College). He work-ed with the famous bacteriologist,Kolmer, in the University of Pennsyl-vania, spent two years on the Thomp-son scholarship in California, taughtat the Brigham Young College forthree years, and has worked especiallyin diseases pertaining to bacteria. Hehas one great ambition—to help alittle in discovering means of elim-inating disease from the earth. Hehas acted as preside
