The Heiligen Geist Hospital on Koberg in Lübeck, completed in 1286, is one of the oldest existing social institutions in the world and one of the most important buildings in the city. It is in the tradition of the Holy Spirit Hospitals following the example of Santo Spirito in Sassia in Rome. The hospitals were looked after by the brothers of the Order of the Holy Spirit.
