He also helped to openup the first bituminous coal-mines operated in Clear-field and Centre Counties, and the company of whichhe was a member, the Osceola Coal Company, intro-duced the bituminous coal of the Clearfield regioninto the Eastern cities, and was the first shipper ofcoal over the Tyrone and Clearfield Railroad. He isan ardent Republican, but has never sought office, andhas held only minor ones in the town in which heresides. As a business man, he has been very success-ful, a fact due to his untiring energy and force ofcharacter.
