At the other extremity of Germany, in an analo-gous position stands Breslau, on the Oder, in thegreat Silesian Bay of the Sudeten. The river isnavigable above Breslau to Ratibor, 125 mileshigher up the stream. It is planted at the centre oftraffic, where the lines meet from the North Sea andthe Baltic to the Danube through the so-calledMoravian Gate.
