Canadian grocer April-June 1918 . window facing on KingStreet is sufficient inducement for any-one to visit the store. Once there theample stock, the fine fixtures and themodern equipment for handling goods, and a courteous and efficient servicewere enough to cement a firm friendshipfor the store, so that although it has notbeen established for a long period oftime it has already built up a clientelethat many stores might envy. Moreoverthe section makes its appeal to the well-to-do class, and as a result credit con-ditions have been found to be very satis-factory. That is a situation that doesnot always prevail with newly-establish-ed stores. Mr. Jenkins, however, haswatched this matter with a great dealof care and has assured himself of theprobity of the customer before grantingextensive credit. Lighted as it is from two sides thestore is as bright as well could be, andperforce it must be clean and sanitary;anything in the way of dust and dirtwould be most emphatically brought tothe attention of the customer, so every. arrangement has been made with a viewto the best display of the goods and atthe same time of assuring a proper bin fixtures protect the goods, while at the same time keeping themfree from dust and dirt, fruit bins keepthe fruit off the floor and in good con-dition, while always on display, whilesilent salesmen in the centre of the storeare used to display candies and pastry. Instead of the usual walled-in office aneat desk at the centre of the store isused for the girl who attends to thebooks and answers the telephone these fixtures give an effect of order-liness and cleanliness that is one of thegreatest assets for any store. But one of the greatest factors in at-tracting trade is the fact that there isa meat department in connection withthe store, which means a united pullingforce which adds greatly to the effective-ness of the stores bid for business; abrief description of this department willbe found in the Provision Departmen
